Primary Level Substitute

Preschool / Montessori Classroom Substitute Teacher Needed

Do you have experience working with 2 ½ - 6 year olds? Pacific Crest School is seeking the right people to support our team of dedicated staff in our Primary Program (3 - 6 year olds) to create a peaceful, engaging Montessori environment that nurtures the child's natural love of work, nature, discovery, and independence. We are presently looking for a Substitute Teacher who can start immediately.

Position Details:

The Substitute's responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervising children within the Primary Classroom, Aftercare team, or Courtyard to support a group of up to 25 children ages 2 ½ - 6 years old

  • Keep our orderly indoor and outdoor environments clean and appealing under the direction of the classroom teacher (or the Before & Aftercare Lead if supporting Aftercare)

  • Support children’s independent activity through clear guidance and observation to determine how to help them grow and contribute to the group

  • Assist with outings periodically (more frequently in the summer)

  • Ensure the physical safety and emotional well-being of the children

  • Model integrity, curiosity, joyful work and respect

The ideal candidate: Has experience caring for children ages 2 ½ - 6 and familiarity with, or a desire to learn more about, Montessori philosophy and practice Is an excellent communicator, interacting with children, families, and co-workers in a warm, compassionate, empathetic, and confident manner Has gentle but firm classroom management skills, exhibiting patience, kindness, calmness, and positive behavior guidance Has experience guiding children in activities such as singing, cooking, gardening, arts, crafts, etc. Has a joyful, caring disposition and a desire to work collaboratively as part of a cohesive team

Preferred Requirements:

  • Enrollment in Washington State’s MERIT online professional registry

  • Current CPR & First Aid certification, Food Handler permit, Blood Borne Pathogens training, proof of negative tuberculosis test, proof of MMR vaccine or measles immunity, driver’s license, and 30-hour Child Care Basics training or exemption

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds

  • Ability to drive 10-passenger school van

Compensation: Compensation is $20.00 - $24.00 per hour, depending upon experience and training. PCS is an equal opportunity organization committed to diversity and equity.
