The main role of the Montessori primary teacher is to connect the child to the environment and the activities within it. The primary teachers encourage the children to be independent, looking for ways to awaken their imaginations. By providing enthusiastic presentations, that give the children the information needed to work on a certain subject, the children can choose their own work and use it repeatedly until a concept is fully internalized. The Montessori teacher greatly values academic progress, simultaneously viewing education as an aid for all aspects of life. We believe that a fundamental love of learning is what truly inspires children. Over a three-year period strong relationships are built between child and teacher providing keen insight into each child’s learning style.
All of the primary teachers have taken an intensive AMI training that not only provides an extensive background in Montessori philosophy but also trains them to follow the child’s needs, desires and developmental stages. Observation is a key element in the implementation of the philosophy. Observing what the child is ready for and has interest in is a very important part of the process. The teacher views each child as an individual and works vigorously to capture their interest in a variety of ways, unveiling their true potential.
The learning experience of the adult does not stop after the training; we strive to have a deeper understanding of child development through many facets of continued education.
