Activities related to work in the classroom and outside of the school foster the child’s social and moral development. Socially, elementary students are drawn to work together, each contributing to make a greater whole in work and projects. Community meetings, held regularly, allow each student an equal opportunity to voice his or her feelings or opinions on community issues, and hopefully, reach majority decisions or consensus on actions. Being able to make choices gives a child the opportunities to practice and see the consequences of his or her actions. Through daily actions, children begin to learn the rules governing conduct in society and to make judgments.
