Elementary students travel to the farm in small groups during the fall, early winter and spring. The farm allows the elementary students the chance to participate in activities that were required of our ancestors to survive: the working of the earth, the sowing of seeds, weeding and harvesting food. They reflect upon the natural activities of living things that they are learning about in their scientific studies. During their first elementary year, students begin a farm journal — a place to sketch and record thoughts and observations. These journals follow them on through middle school.
